I hope that's not a Russian Sniper

Over the last few days when putting the nets up early in the morning we have spooked a Snipe. This morning we took a wide berth where we thought the Snipe might be and put up the nets just past it. This done, we back-tracted and then walked along the line where we thought it was. We soon flushed it and it flew straight into the net. A good result.

The Snipe was aged a a juvenile.

To date we have caught 13 Tree Pipits. The short hind claw, lighter colouration, deeper beak and its bigger size are key identification features of this lovely bird.
