Open awareness day

We were asked by Biotope our sponsors of our visit to Norway, the National Park Authorities and the Norwegian Ringing Scheme based in Stavanger to have an open day at our ringing headquarters in the grounds of the local Police Station at Nyrud. We were informed that Norwegian TV, National Norwegian Press and two local schools would be making a visit to us, which they did.

Colin having been a school teacher before he retired was in his element today. The children were very interested in the birds and loved it when Colin told them the Norwegian name of each bird he talked about. We were processing the birds and passing them to the children to hold and let go. You can see on their faces how much they enjoyed it.

If only one of these delightful primary school children is enthused by what we've done with them and continues to support bird conservation it will have been a major success. They look pretty engaged to us.

This particular girl was very confident and loved every minute of her experience.

Colin being interviewed by the press in the grounds of the Police Station, home to our ringing site for the last 10 days. We are all looking forward to reading the article.

This is a lovely adult male White Wagtail. "White" because the black on the side of the neck does not connect with that on the lower neck. Male because of the extent of the black on the head. And adult because of the amount of white on the head and the single generation of coverts
